What is the Flaming Foliage Relay?
The Flaming Foliage Relay (FFR) is a long-distance relay race spanning approximately 165 miles over 30 legs. Teams of 6 to 10 runners (or smaller Ultra teams) take on a mix of paved roads, dirt county roads, single-track trails, and bike paths as they climb and descend some of Colorado’s most iconic peaks, including Guanella Pass, Georgia Pass, and Fremont Pass.
The course offers a stunning mix of terrain and views, with fall foliage painting the hillsides in every direction. The event is designed to test endurance, foster teamwork, and celebrate Colorado’s rugged beauty.

- Start: Idaho Springs, CO
- Finish Line: River Park Pavilion, Buena Vista, CO
- Distance: 165 miles total (divided into 30 legs)
- Elevation Gain: Significant, with three major mountain passes over 11,000 ft
- Team Sizes: 6–10 (Standard), 4–5 (Ultra), or 1–3 (Super Ultra)
Registration fees vary based on team size and will increase after May 31, 2025. Teams are responsible for their own support vehicles, food, and gear. This is a self-supported adventure, adding to the challenge and camaraderie.
