If you’re looking for a stunning peak to summit in the Buena Vista area, you can’t go wrong with Huron Peak Trail. This moderate to strenuous trail is about 8.4 miles round trip and rewards hikers with breathtaking views of the Collegiate Peaks, the Arkansas River Valley, and the surrounding Sawatch Range.

The trail

The trail starts off easy enough, winding through a scenic aspen and evergreen forest. After about two miles, the trail begins to ascend more steeply as you make your way up to the summit ridge. Once you reach the ridge, the trail begins to level out, providing sweeping views of the surrounding landscape.

The final push to the summit of Huron Peak is a steep and rocky scramble, but the summit is worth the effort. You’ll be rewarded with 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, including the nearby Mount Harvard, Mount Columbia, and Mount Princeton.

Whether you’re a first-time hiker or an experienced mountaineer, the Huron Peak Trail is a great way to experience the beauty of the Buena Vista area. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen, as the trail is exposed in many places. Enjoy your time on the trail.
